Dr. Todd Adamson, PsyD, ABPP is a board-certified clinical psychologist in Los Angeles and Atlanta, and the founder of Elite Psychology Group. With over 20 years of experience, he works with individuals, couples, families, and athletes to address the full range of psychological challenges — from anxiety, depression, and trauma to relationship difficulties, life transitions, and performance psychology.
Dr. Adamson holds board certification through the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP), a credential held by fewer than 4% of licensed psychologists in the United States, and a Diplomate designation from the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies. He brings a rare combination of clinical depth and applied performance expertise to his work with athletes and high-performing adults in Los Angeles and Atlanta.

He brings a rare combination of clinical depth and applied performance expertise to his work with athletes and high-performing adults in Los Angeles and Atlanta.
His clinical approach is grounded in evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based interventions, psychodynamic therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). He is a trained Gottman Method couples therapist and holds expertise in Parent Management Training for families navigating behavioral and developmental challenges with children and adolescents.
Dr. Adamson has extensive experience treating complex trauma and PTSD. He is a nationally recognized expert in virtual reality therapy for trauma, serving as a consultant for VA clinicians across the United States on the Bravemind virtual reality platform — one of the most advanced evidence-based treatments for combat-related PTSD currently in clinical use. He previously served as Associate Medical Director of Psychiatry at Science 37, where he led the development of virtual clinical trials in psychiatry.
His sport and performance psychology practice serves athletes and high-performing adults at every level of competition — from youth and collegiate athletes to elite professionals and high-functioning adults navigating performance demands in sport, business, and life. His work in this area is informed by his own background as a competitive athlete, classical musician, and long-form improv performer — experiences that gave him a firsthand understanding of what it takes to perform under pressure across very different domains.
Dr. Adamson's academic credentials reflect the depth and breadth of his expertise. He holds a B.A. from the University of Georgia, an M.A. and Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, and an M.S. in Kinesiology with a specialization in Applied Sport Psychology from Adams State University. He has held faculty appointments at USC and Antioch University, conducted clinical research at the Long Beach VA Medical Center, and has taught and supervised the next generation of clinical and sport psychologists throughout his career.
Dr. Adamson sees clients in person in Los Angeles (West LA) and Atlanta (Decatur), and offers telehealth services to clients throughout California and Georgia. Elite Psychology Group is in-network with Anthem Blue Cross and Aetna in California.

Whether you’re focused on mental health, performance, or both — individually, as a couple, or as part of a group — our work begins with understanding where you’ve been, where you are, and where you want to be. We’ll build on your strengths, identify what might be getting in the way (beliefs, emotions, behaviors, relationships, health, environment), and make sure our work together fits your goals.
At Elite Psychology Group, we’re committed to integrating the best of science and practice, always evolving alongside new research. My approach integrates humanistic-existential, psychodynamic, and mindfulness-based methods, while keeping in mind the powerful roles of brain health, culture, and environment.

Across all approaches, research consistently shows the quality of the therapeutic relationship is the biggest driver of growth. That’s why I prioritize authenticity, collaboration, and responsiveness. I aim to create a nonjudgmental space — a “lab” — where you can try out new ways of communicating, coping, performing, and simply being.
I also recognize that lived experience can matter. Some clients feel most supported by a therapist who shares aspects of their identity. Others find deep healing across differences. No matter what, you deserve a space where you can address what matters to you. I’m guided by values of cultural humility, allyship, liberation psychology, and a commitment to learning without placing extra burden on clients.
I earned my PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University (APA-accredited) and hold an MS in Sport Psychology from Georgia Southern University. I completed my predoctoral internship at the Wake Forest University Counseling Center (APA-accredited) and gained additional experience through neuropsychology externships at the Sports Concussion Institute and the Long Beach VA. I also had the opportunity to study Sport and Performance Psychology internationally at Victoria University in Australia.
I’ve contributed to peer-reviewed research and publications, including to Cambridge University Press’ Mindfulness and Performance and the widely used textbook Applied Sport Psychology (8th-9th eds.). I’ve participated in international collaborations, including Team Denmark and Team Switzerland’s mindfulness in elite sport thought-summits and am also the founder of Meet The Moment, a startup dedicated to advancing mental skills training.
At my core, I value vitality — growth, fun, contribution, and curiosity.
As a former elite athlete, lifelong learner, and "fellow traveler" in therapy, I know firsthand the importance of showing up fully for the journey — in life, in work, and in performance.
If you're ready to take the next step, I’m here to support you.

Healing is not linear, and no two journeys look the same. My approach is rooted in collaboration, curiosity, and a deep respect for the courage it takes to show up and do this work. Whether you are navigating disordered eating, performance pressure, or the weight of high expectations, I am here to help you untangle what is holding you back and reconnect with your values and strengths. Together, we will set meaningful goals, build practical tools, and work toward a relationship with yourself, your body, and your life that feels sustainable and true to who you are.
I specialize in eating disorder therapy in Los Angeles for adolescents and adults, with a particular focus on female athletes and high-performing women struggling with disordered eating, body image concerns, and performance-related pressure. I also work with couples and with children and adolescents navigating emotional, behavioral, and developmental challenges.

I also work with couples and with children and adolescents navigating emotional, behavioral, and developmental challenges.
I work with individuals experiencing anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, chronic dieting, and body dissatisfaction. I incorporate EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to help clients process the underlying trauma and shame that often drive disordered eating and negative body image — supporting healing that goes beyond symptom relief. My approach is non-judgmental and collaborative, helping clients build sustainable, values-aligned relationships with food, movement, and self.
For female athletes, I provide therapy for performance anxiety, burnout, injury recovery, and sport-related identity concerns. As a former Division I track and cross-country athlete, I understand firsthand the pressure to balance achievement with well-being. I use EMDR alongside sport and performance psychology principles to help athletes process perfectionism, performance trauma, and identity challenges in and beyond sport.
In couples therapy, I support partners in rebuilding communication, repairing trust, and navigating the relational strain that often accompanies high-achievement pressure, and life transitions. With children and adolescents, I create a warm, developmentally informed space to address anxiety, school stress, social difficulties, and the unique pressures facing young athletes and high-achieving teens.
My work is grounded in a systemic, strengths-based approach — exploring how anxiety, perfectionism, and identity interact with eating, body image, and relationships. Therapy focuses on self-awareness, values clarification, and practical tools for long-term emotional health.
I hold a B.S. in Psychology with minors in Public Health and Chemistry, and an M.S. in Couples and Family Therapy. I offer both in-person and telehealth therapy throughout Los Angeles.
Employed and supervised by Dr. Todd Adamson.
